Space Technology and Career Exploration
The 2024 ALWG SPACE FLIGHT ENGINEERING and MANUFACTURING Cadet Special Activity will be held from 9 to 14 June, 2024.
Applications are now being sought for Cadets who are interested in attending the ALWG Space Flight Engineering and Manufacturing Cadet Special Activity (CSA), to be held June 9-14 in Huntsville, AL.
Candidates:
This CSA is open to Cadets 15 years + that are seeking hands-on learning with a team of rocket scientist in this resident activity. Cadets that have earned their CAP Rocketry Badge and have a serious interest in space flight engineering and or space flight manufacturing are encouraged to apply to this groundbreaking event.
Events and Activities:
If selected for the program, you will join other highly motivated Cadets in exploring mid-power rocketry, participating in the design of, using advanced construction methods to include 3D printing, composites, and the mixing of rocket motor propellants. The rockets you design, and build will scheduled to test fire, followed by a launch. Aerospace engineers will be members of this team of cadre and guide, inspire and assist in the building of rockets for the project.
Additionally, the event participants will get exclusive engagements with and tours of aerospace technology manufacturing companies to include United Launch Alliance, Boeing as well as NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.
Costs and Transportation:
Cost of the event is $400, which includes housing, meals, tours, and supplies.
Cadets will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the activity. Huntsville International Airport (KHSV) is the closest airport and the CSA staff can arrange a pick-up of Cadets at the Airport with prior coordination.
Packing List and Uniform Requirement:
Uniform for the event will primarily be ABUs, with Class B blues worn on occasion. Packing list will be the same as any standard encampment, minus sweatshirts as this is Alabama in the summer.
